GM is kicking off its hiring effort and making development progress at its Ultium battery manufacturing facility beneath its new Ultium Cells LLC joint-venture with LG Chem.

The brand new startup is seeking to rent over 1,000 employees that may help the manufacturing of GM’s future electrical automobiles.

In December 2019, GM announced its own battery factory in partnership with LG Chem in Lordstown, Ohio.

The venture, known as Ultium Cells LLC, will produce “greater than 30 gigawatt hours with flexibility for growth” — making it a “gigafactory,” which is a time period popularized by Tesla and first used for Tesla’s Gigafactory Nevada.

GM broke floor in Could and began deploying the first steel structures in July.

Now the automaker is sharing new photographs of the progress made on the plant over the previous few months (photos are from October 23):

Additionally, GM introduced that it’s beginning its hiring effort to workers the battery manufacturing facility at present:

“Beginning at present, job seekers can apply for positions on the Ultium Cells LLC website. The plant will start actively hiring for key positions to execute the arrange and launch of battery cell manufacturing. Further job openings can be posted to the web site as they turn out to be accessible.”

The web site is barely displaying 14 positions on the time of writing, however it’s anticipated to extend as they make progress.

Thomas Gallagher, plant director of Ultium Cells LLC Lordstown manufacturing facility, commented:

“We’re excited to share our imaginative and prescient of an all-electric future as we start including members to our highly-technical battery cell manufacturing group. This facility will lead us into a brand new period of producing and sustainability as we push towards a zero-emissions future. We’re very grateful for the Lordstown group’s continued help.”

GM closed its car manufacturing facility in Lordstown, however the automaker offered it to Lordstown Motors who’s reopening the plant to supply electrical pickup vans.

Between Lordstown Motors and now Ultium Cells LLC, it seems to be just like the area may truly find yourself in a greater state of affairs regardless of GM closing the manufacturing facility.

The deal between GM and LG Chem on the manufacturing facility is paying homage to the deal Tesla made with Panasonic to construct Gigafactory Nevada.

Like Gigafactory Nevada offering batteries for Tesla Mannequin 3 and Mannequin Y car packages, Ultium Cells LLC goes to construct batteries for GM’s upcoming electrical automobiles — beginning with the Cadillac Lyriq and GMC Hummer EV.
