TRB’s new manufacturing course of for high-volume continuous-fiber thermoset composite components

TRB Light-weight Constructions has created a brand new manufacturing course of to ship continuous-fiber thermoset composite components at excessive quantity. This automated manufacturing course of is now getting used to provide a worldwide Tier 1 powertrain producer with battery elements for electrical buses.

TRB’s manufacturing course of combines proprietary snap-cure resins and in-house-produced prepreg supplies with robotic manufacturing to generate high-spec, ready-to-ship thermoset components in minutes. These customized supplies are fed into a totally built-in course of that automates reducing, lay-up, urgent and curing with the intention to permit components to be manufactured sooner and extra cost-effectively. This methodology might be tailored to incorporate extra materials layers providing thermal, electrical and EMI safety.

TRB has created a high-volume manufacturing facility within the US, and is establishing the identical capabilities at its UK base. Managing Director Richard Holland mentioned, “Whereas high-volume composites have many functions, we’ve chosen to deal with the fast-expanding EV market—each on the highway and within the sky—given our mission to speed up the transition to sustainable transportation.”
